Steve White
Ten years ago, Steve White returned from a trip around the Fastnet Rock onboard one of the Challenge Business 67 foot yachts, and decided then and there that he would take part in the prestigious Vendee Globe race, a single handed, non stop 27,000 miles, around the world race, that allows no outside help or assistance.
Steve set about making his dream come true. In 2005, he chartered an old Open 50 yacht, and sailed to victory in the OSTAR, a single-handed race from Plymouth UK to Newport, Rhode Island, USA. Steve arrived four days before his closest rival.
In 2007, Steve took part in the notorious Fastnet race and came in a very credible 17th. This race saw the majority of competitors retire due to bad weather!
Steve has just taken part in the Artemis Transat race - the qualifying passage for the Vendee Globe race - almost 3,000 miles, from Plymouth UK, to Boston USA, He arrived in 9th position. A third of the boats did not making it to Boston. Steve finished only a few hours behind the newest boat in the fleet, Aviva, skippered by Dee Caffari. This was an incredible result considering Steve's Open 60, Spirit of Weymouth is ten years old, some of the sails are original 1998 vintage, and no optimization has been carried out on the boat.
The next race for Steve is the Vendee Globe race, his ultimate aim, starting and finishing in Sables D'Olonne, in France, this race is considered the Everest of Ocean racing, a true test of personal preparation, courage and endurance, the ultimate single-handed race. More people have been in to space than have sailed single-handed non stop around the world!
So far, Steve's campaign has been funded from his own pocket, causing him to re-mortgage his house four times, and a raft of small sponsors, which help to keep the project afloat. A major sponsor, or even multi-sponsorship is now urgently required to get Steve to the start line of the Vendee Globe race in November this year. Steve has done the hard work, putting ten years of his life into this one race, his dream. He is almost there!
Steve and his team at White Ocean Racing are able to offer sponsors access to an environmentally sound sport that is highly technical as well as being exciting and competitive.
Ocean racing offers the opportunity to increase brand awareness on the world stage, create Global business-to-business opportunities, and develop employee motivation and incentive schemes, Global client development and other benefits. It is also an excellent way to showcase technology in one of the harshest environments in the world.
White Ocean Racing are able to provide a bespoke campaign tailored to your sponsorship requirements, and would be happy to discuss how the unique objectives of your company can be integrated with their Open 60 campaign.www.whiteoceanracing.com
