| The Annual Maritime Video Awards for the year 2008 was held at the port city of Cochin in the majestic ‘Le Meridien’ on 30 April 2008. This is the second appearance of the prestigious maritime video awards after the captivating mega launch ceremony and the first maritime video awards that took place at Hotel Crowne Plaza, Dubai. | |
| The mega nite started at 6.00 pm in the evening with ‘Rudraveena’ by Vaikkom Vijayalakshmi, which was followed by numerous performances from various artists. The invitees were greeted with Thalappoli. The performance by the traditional art forms of Kerala such as ‘Kadhakali’ and various other art forms representing different states of India symbolically enacted the diversity of India. Attended by an array of distinguished personalities from both the maritime and film fraternity, the award nite was an unforgettable experience for all. | |
| DAM – the first Hollywood movie by the mariners was also launched at the star-studded mega nite. The thespian actor of Malayalam, Mr. Madhu with T.V. Chandran, one of the well-known directors in Malayalam were the special invitees for the award nite and both of them together cut the ribbon and launched DAM, which is also a prestigious project of Aries Marine. Many prominent personalities from the maritime industry witnessed the event. The first anniversary of Marine BizTV and the tenth anniversary of Aries Marine were also celebrated on this day. The special video screened on the evolution of Marine BizTV and its one-year of successful completion, which denotes the power of visual media and the promo of Marine BizTV, was also a highlight of the event. | |
| Mr. Sohan Roy, the visionary and master brain behind Marine BizTV addressed the gathering. 26 award categories were included this year. Fifteen award categories came under the People’s Choice Awards and eleven categories came under the Maritime Excellence Award. | |
| Dr. Dong Shik Shin, Chairman and Founder, Korea Maritime Consultant Co. Ltd., who is also known as the father of Korean Shipbuilding Industry was honored with the lifetime achievement award for maritime service. Capt. C.A.J Vanderperre, Founder & CEO, Univan Ship Management, Hong Kong, was honored with the lifetime achievement award for the maritime entrepreneurship. He is known as the ‘Father of Ship Management’. Prof. Erno Eugen Wiebeck, Rostock University, Germany, who is known as the “Father of Ship Technology Department-CUSAT”, bagged the lifetime achievement award for maritime academics. | |
